Introduction:

Tamang Heritage Trail trekking leads you to marvelous cultural and scenic walks of moderate grade which involves few uphill climbs and down-hills with amazing scenery of snow-clad peaks of Ganesh and Langtang Himal. Mountain Challenger Treks & Expeditions presents this wonderful journey of a week duration, where you can soak in within the local colorful culture of Tamang people the hill tribe of Langtang Himal, and as well throughout Nepal Himalaya. Tamang an ancient tribe of Tibetan and Mongolian origin with similar traditions and custom to Tibet as well practice their own spiritual worships of ancestors and nature which is known as Bon sects, a pre-Buddhism religion that still exists with Tamang-Gurung-Mustang and Dolpo areas of Nepal. An interesting traditional way of life engaged with agriculture and cattle herding as well breeding sheep-goats and Yaks on high pasture fields in the shade of snowcapped mountains, they are also a skilled craftsman making wooden furniture and some musical instrument and are very good with folk music and songs. Starting our journey Tamang Heritage Trail taking a drive away from Kathmandu valley heading North-West direction within Langtang Himal at Rasuwa district as drive brings at Dhunche the headquarter of the district, and then taking a scenic and cultural walk exploring Tamang villages. The walk leads you away from mainstream trekking trails where only a few foreigners sometimes visit this remote and isolated Tamang farm village where some of the areas situated close to the border of Tibet-China at Kyirong frontier. A pleasant walk into enchanting pristine woodland of tall rhododendron-magnolia-pines-oaks and fir trees with views of high mountains on daily walks enjoying an overnight stop in local villages blended with a harmony of the local ceremonial of dance and songs with a taste of the culture. After a fantastic time and exploring the inner villages of Langtang Himal then heading back to the road head at Syaburbesi village for the exciting and interesting overland drive back to Kathmandu after a marvelous experience and enjoyable time in Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu 1,340 m via respective airlines and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: In Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour around world heritage sites.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,960 - 06 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Gatlang 2,200 m / 7,217 ft -05 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Tatopani 2,607 m - 05 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Thuman (2,400m/7,874 ft) - 06 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Briddim 2,229 m -05 hrs.

Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,354 m - 06 hrs.

Day 09: Trek to Syabrubesi village - 06 hrs.

Day 10: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

Day 11: International departure for home ward bound.

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu 1,340 m via respective airlines and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International airport received by our Mountain Challenger staff and guides for short transfer and drive in the heart of Kathmandu city to your respective hotels. After checking into your rooms meet at briefing hall where our guide or leader will brief you regarding Tamang Heritage Trail trekking.  Include information of hotels, lodge and do’s and don’ts with group welcome dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese Restaurant with various Folk programs of Nepal as entertainment. 

Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour around world heritage sites.

Morning after breakfast our city guide will take you for an interesting sightseeing tour in and around Kathmandu city, where Kathmandu valley steeped with ancient historical, religious monuments which is listed on world heritage sites. Tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square (old Malla and Shah Royal courtyard) with resident of virgin ‘Goddess Kumari’ and other places of great interest, from here heading to oldest landmark of Kathmandu and Nepal at Swayambhunath Stupa, believed to be more than 2,600 years old a Buddhist dome shaped with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. After an interesting tour back to Hotel with afternoon free for Tamang Heritage Trail trekking preparation next early morning drive to Langtang Himal areas. 

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,960 - 06 hrs.

Morning taking a tourist coach or smaller vehicle as per group size for overland drive that leads you away and beyond Kathmandu valley heading north west with views of snowcapped mountains. As drive continues on hilly highway past farm villages and town then heading higher up into cooler region at Rasuwa district around Langtang Himal. As drive enters a large hill town at Dhunche where air is much cooler which is the entry point of downhill on winding zig-zag road to reach at Syabrubesi village for first overnight stop in thehills and valley of Langtang Himal.

Day 04: Trek to Gatlang 2,238 m - 05 hrs.

First-day walk starts from Syabrubesi village to Gatlang village where route leads through Goljung, as walks begin explore Tamang culture with views Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung and other adjoining peaks. As the trek progress leads past several farm villages of Tamang area and then with slow climb reaching a large Tamang village at Gatlang for overnight stop, on arrival warm welcome greeted with Khada (religious silk scarf) and transfers you  to local homes for overnight stay, with time to visit around the villages and interact with the locals. Gatlang, situated on high hillside within terraced farm fields marked with traditional stone houses. One can visit a Tamang monastery and beautiful Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang. The cultural show at Goljung and Gatlang makes your trekking an unforgettable experience.

Day 05: Trek to Tatopani 2,607 m - 05 hrs.

Today's walk leads to descending at Thangbuchet, on the way enjoy views of Langtang Mountain range and Ganesh Himal with Tibet Mountains towards north, walk leads past small farm villages and into alpine woodlands to reach at Tatopani for overnight stop. Afternoon visit hot springs ‘Tatopani’ means hot water rising from the fresh spring with time for short walk around villages. Tatopani signifies 'hot water’; it is believed that a dip into the spring heals you from pain and aches and relaxes your tired muscles, afternoon with time to experience Tamang culture exploring the village and interacting with the locals.

Day 06: Trek to Thuman 2,338 m - 05 hrs.

Morning walk from Tatopani leads at Thuman via Nagthali and Bimthang as our route leads into dense alpine forest, chances of spotting monkeys and deer. On reaching Nagthali with clear views of Langtang Himal, Kerung, Ganesh Himal. Nagthali used to be a popular meditation center of local monks and priests. From here another hour walks to reach at cultural village of Thuman, where you can observe Shamanic performances with view of Langtang Himal. 

Day 07: Trek to Briddim 2,229 m -05 hrs. From Thuman trek to Briddim village.

 on route visit historical Rasuwagadi the border of Nepal and Tibet / China with an old fort, the fort a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibetan relations that have existed for many centuries. Walk today leads you with an opportunity to observe Tamang culture and traditional village life. After an interesting time with views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal, a nice and pleasant walk on winding path with a climb to a ridge overlooking more views of mountains and surrounding landscapes and entering rhododendron, pines and oaks forest, and then climb with short downhill to reach at Briddim for overnight stop. Briddim, another Tibetan Buddhist village located on old trade route of Nepal and Tibet here with wonderful time enjoying folk and cultural show performed by local community.

Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,354 m -06 hours.

After Briddim a pleasant walks with few short up and down for a while but the rest of the walk is gradual on the winding trail through the terraced farm fields and villages, as the trail descends and joins the path coming from upper Thulo Syabru and Syabrubesi near Riverside Lodge, as the walk leads into cool forest within a river gorge of Trisuli River in the middle of rhododendron and oaks forest after five or six hours walks reaching a small clearing at Lama- Hotel for overnight stop.

Day 09: Trek back to Syabrubesi village - 06 hrs. 

Our final day of the trek where morning walk leads on the same trail which gives you time to enjoy the views along the route, as the route leads downhill into cool shade of forest, as walk leads through farm fields and nice tended terraces to reach at Syabrubesi for last overnight stop around beautiful Langtang region.

Day 10: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

After pleasant and interesting time on high hills and valley of Langtang Himal with last overnight around Tamang village in Syabrubesi, morning an interesting drive brings you back at Kathmandu on the same exciting highway where interesting journey ends on reaching hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu afternoon free at leisure for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.

Day 11: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal country of high mountains and varied colorful culture, as per your international flight time, our staff transfer you to airport for final departure homeward bound with fabulous and unique memories and cultural adventure on Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking.
