Introduction:

Langtang Valley and Ganja-la trekking, a marvelous adventure that takes you from the popular route of Langtang to hidden and elusive trails to reach the charming and beautiful area of Helambu after crossing high Ganja-la above 5,122 m high. Mountain Challenger Treks & Expeditions offers this ever exciting adventure Langtang Valley and Ganja-La Trekking, where very few trekkers seldom use this challenging route on the hidden areas of Langtang valley and its high mountains. Langtang Valley with Ganja-la will be a great adventure of a lifetime experience where walk leads you first into scenic Langtang valley at Kyanjin with wonderful times having acclimatization days for a short hike to scenic high hills to support exercise for the great crossing over Ganja-la that leads you to beautiful areas of Helambu. Langtang Valley and Ganja-La Trekking begin taking an exciting drive to reach northwest Himalaya region of Langtang Himal from Kathmandu, and then into Langtang National Park covered with dense enchanting forest of tall rhododendron, magnolia and pines trees. As walk progress and then leaving behind river gorge and tree lines to reach at the wide-open valley of Langtang Himal at Kyanjin, a scenic settlement of Tamang and Hyalmo people facing views of tall peaks on both sides of this beautiful green valley. After a pleasant time around Kyanjin with rest days and hike to get acclimatized, and then getting ready for the big climb and great adventure crossing high Ganja-la pass, within remote and isolated areas of Langtang valley. Next morning a scenic and tough climb lead over 5,122 m pass to reach the pristine and undisturbed forested area and valley at Helambu, where walk eventually takes you into the charming village at Tarke Gyang. Helambu the home of Halo people, a small group of the tribe with a similar culture of Tamang and Sherpa interwoven with Buddhism religion of Tibetan origin custom and traditions here with time to explore its interesting village and monastery before driving back to Kathmandu after a great wonderful adventure on Langtang Valley and Ganja-La Trekking.

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu 1,340 m via respective airlines and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: In Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour around world heritage sites.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,960 - 06 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,354 m - 06 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village 3,295 m - 06 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin with Langtang valley at 3,749 m - 04 hrs.

Day 07: At Kyanjin rest to explore around and scenic hike.

Day 08: Trek to Ganja La Phedi 4,300m - 05 hrs.

Day 09: Cross Ganja La pass 5,122 m descend to Keldang 4,250m - 07 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to Dukpu 4,080 m - 05 hrs.

Day 11: Trek to Tarke-Gyang 2,590 m - 04 hours.

Day 12: Trek to Sermathang 2,610 m - 04 hours.

Day 13: Trek and drive to Kathmandu - 05 hrs.

Day 01: Reach Kathmandu 1,340 m via respective airlines and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International airport received by our Mountain Challenger staff and guides for short transfer and drive in the heart of Kathmandu city to your respective hotels. After checking into your rooms meet at the briefing hall where our guide or leader will brief you regarding Langtang Valley and Ganja-La Pass trekking. Include information of hotels, lodge and do’s and don’ts with group welcome dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese Restaurant with various Folk programs of Nepal as entertainment. 

Day 02: In Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour around world heritage sites.

Morning after breakfast our city guide will take you for an interesting sightseeing tour in and around Kathmandu city, where Kathmandu valley steeped with ancient historical, religious monuments which is listed on world heritage sites. Tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square (old Malla and Shah Royal courtyard) with resident of virgin ‘Goddess Kumari’ and other places of great interest, from here heading to oldest landmark of Kathmandu and Nepal at Swayambhunath Stupa, believed to be more than 2,600 years old a Buddhist dome shaped with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. From here head back to Hotel with free afternoon preparation for Langtang Valley and Ganja-La Pass Trekking.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,960 - 06 hrs.

Morning taking a tourist coach or smaller vehicle as per group size for an overland drive that leads you away and beyond Kathmandu valley heading north west with views of snowcapped mountains. As drive continues on the hilly highway past farm villages and town then heading higher up into cooler region at Rasuwa district around Langtang Himal. As drive enters a large hill town at Dhunche where the air is much cooler which is the entry point of Langtang National Park, Dhunche the headquarter of Rasuwa district where drive leads downhill on winding zig-zag road to reach at Syabrubesi village for a first overnight stop in the hills and valley of Langtang Himal.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,354 m -06 hours.

After a fresh morning with mountain air, first day walk of the adventure starts on the gradual trail to cross a bridge over Bhote Kosi or upper Trisuli River, after the bridge climb leads to a ridge past scattered Tamang farm villages and terraces to enter into the cool alpine forest of tall rhododendron-hemlocks-oaks-magnolia and fir tree lines. Around this forested area where rare and endangered Red Panda habitats, which is seldom seen along the walk on to Lama Hotel for an overnight stop. Lama Hotel placed in a clearing surrounded within beautiful forests near a raging Upper Trisuli River.

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village 3,295 m - 06 hours.

From Lama Hotel onward walks lead into a gorge covered with dense thick forest offering views of Langtang Lirung along the walk to reach at Ghoretabela, located in the midst of green woodland, after a pleasant rest walk continues with short ups into a forest to reach at Langtang village for an overnight stop. Langtang village was badly destroyed in 2015 earthquakes, this village is slowly coming back to normal; here visit around Tamang farm houses enrich with old culture of Buddhism religion. 

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin 3,749 m - 04 hours.

Walk today leads to scenic Kyanjin, after a leisure breakfast short walk within beautiful Langtang valley, one of the highlight of Mt. Dorji Lakpa expedition. Walk starts with the short climb as the gorge opens into a wide scenic valley, where tree lines drops for short alpine bushes of azalea plants and juniper bushes with dramatic views of snow covered peaks. Slowly walk takes you at Kyanjin with an altitude of above 3,850 m high surrounded with views of high mountains. At Kyanjin with an overnight stop, afternoon time relax and catch magnificent views and explore its small Cheese factory, established and support of Swiss technical assistance.

Day 07: Rest day for local hike and acclimatization.

A rest day for acclimatization before crossing high Ganja-la pass to Helambu with an altitude above 5,122 m high, options of hike to view point hill top for wonderful panorama of mountain range from Tsego Ri or Kyanjin Hill at above 4,700 m high, rewards you with Ghengu Liru (Langtang II 6,571m / 21,560ft), Langtang Lirung (7,425m / 23,765ft) Kimshun (6,745m / 22,137ft) and Shalbachum(6,918m / 22, 699ft) to the south, the Chimsedang Lekh a ridge of peaks includes Naya-Kanga 5,846m or Ganjala peak with Gangchempo, Tilman's beautiful Fluted Peak. Extends towards Jugal Himal further east at Mt. Dorje Lakpa above 6,966 m high forming a massive mountain wall and a frontier with Tibet.

Day 08: Trek to Ganja La Phedi 4,300 m - 05 hrs.

Morning walk facing views of high peaks, after leaving Kyanjin adventure begins crossing Langtang River and then with climb into birch and rhododendron forest and then on icy path to reach an open flat ground at the bottom of Ganja La, for overnight camp with all facilities of kitchen unit, cook-kitchen staff including camping staff and guides. Our guide will check and scout the area for a safe and accessible route for next day crossing over Ganja-la pass.

Day 09: Cross Ganja La pass 5,122 m / 16,800 ft descend to Keldang 4,250 m - 06 hrs.

Starting early morning where climb leads above Ganja La pass on a high ridge, a challenging climb to cross, the pass sometimes might be covered with snow, as this side of Langtang valley where sun-light hardly reaches due to its hidden and shade near to Naya-Kanga or Ganja-La peak. This route seldom used by trekkers and adventurer, where morning leads to a climb on the icy path past small ponds to reach on top Ganja la pass, after a vigorous climb descend to reach a small place of at Keldang-Kharka for overnight stop and camping. 

Day 10: Trek to Dukpu 4,080 m - 05 hrs.

From here onward within Helambu area, walk past summer pasture of cattle herders on the downhill walk with few ups and downs reaching a small settlement for an overnight camp at Dukpu.

Day 11: Trek to Tarke-Gyang 2,590 m - 05 hrs. 

After several days in the complete wilderness away from farm villages, where morning walk takes you to the charming village of Helambu at TarkeGyang, starting with slow downhill and then up to a small pass at 4,100 m facing views of Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal mountain range. From here on the downhill into the forest of pines and rhododendron trees, reaching Helambu at the main and first village in Tarke- Gyang for overnight, here with time to visit one of the oldest Buddhist monastery of the village. Tarke-Gyang, famous for Buddhist culture, wood carving and delicious green apples also. Afternoon free to explore this lovely village and its old Ama Yangri monastery situated on top of the village.

Day 12: Trek to Sermathang 2,610 m - 04 hours.

Morning after leaving the village walk downhill into cool forest past many chhorten (Buddhist prayer monuments), summer meadows to reach Gangyul a small village, then following the path with wonderful views of rolling hills to reach at Shermathang for overnight stop, another cute and lovely Hyalmo village here with time to visit another old interesting monastery. 

Day 13: Trek to Malemchipul Bazaar, drive to Kathmandu - 05 hrs drive.

After a wonderful time around Helambu within a pristine natural environment where walk continues for short while and then taking a drive on the dirt road past Melamchi bazaar to reach Kathmandu,. Few hours of pleasant drive brings you in Kathmandu after a wonderful time on the high hills of Central Himalaya of Langtang range of mountains.

Day 14: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal country of high mountains and varied colorful culture, as per your international flight time, our staff transfer you to the airport for final departure homeward bound with fabulous and unique memories and adventure on Langtang Valley and Ganja-la Trekking.
